Christopher Philip Behlmer, born September 4, 1963 in Cudahy, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 22 at his new home in Gallatin, TN. He and his wife Brenda have resided in Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls WI for the past 30 years and were in the process of moving to Gallatin to enjoy the amenities and friends that surround their beautiful new home.
Whether you knew him as Chris, CPB or Lefty (and probably some other nicknames), he had passion for so many things — boating, fishing, music, art, softball, wristbands, Jolly Ranchers, Swedish Fish, golf, baseball, and his favorite Strat-O-Matic baseball leagues. He and Brenda enjoyed a rather extensive travel schedule including North Padre Island for the winters, trips with friends, and exploring the world outside of the U.S.
From his childhood in Oak Creek, WI, Chris had many neighborhood and school friends that he remained close to throughout life. His years at UW-Platteville also led to a large, lifelong group of friends. His enthusiasm was infectious and he made his presence known in every room he entered. To meet Chris was to gain a friend for life; to be his friend was to know loyalty, deep commitment, and someone who would always stand by your side. Brenda was often happy to say, “He’s all mine.”
He shared his creativity for many years at Print-n-Press Digital Color where his artistic spirit was appreciated and lives on. Through much of his life Chris often joked that his occupation was “teaching interpretive dance at a local community college,” which is a great reflection on his spirit, storytelling abilities, and general lust for life.
Chris is survived by his wife of 26 years and best friend, Brenda Behlmer (Harmsen); their awesome cat Major Paxwell Fluffypants who misses him dearly; his brother, Tim Behlmer; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Scott and Tammy Harmsen, along with his nieces and nephews: Jenna (Karl) Yentz (Rose, Bodie and Pearl Yentz), Alyssa Harmsen, and Jake Harmsen. He is also lovingly remembered by the entire Behlmer clan of cousins. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Philip.
He leaves behind a legacy of iconic wit, creativity and connection — a life lived fully and generously. Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
We will celebrate Chris’ life on Saturday, December 13 at Davians (N56W16300 Silver Spring Dr, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051) with Visitation 10:00-11:45, Service at Noon, and reception and lunch to follow. Please join us, and consider sharing fond memories of Chris! This should truly be a celebration of his life, so please come attired as Chris would expect to see you.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elmbrook Humane Society or the Brewers Community Foundation in Chris’ memory would be appreciated.
