John J. Plantinga Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, in Gallatin. Born on October 15, 1956, John lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a profound commitment to his community and family.

John was a devoted family man, beloved by his wife, Mindi Plantinga. Together, they nurtured a warm and loving home that welcomed their children and grandchildren. He is survived by his son, John J. Plantinga III, and his daughter-in-law, Caitlin. John's legacy extends joyfully through his grandchildren: Ruby Kate Witten, John J. "Jack" Witten, Ben Witten, Mason Witten, Deacon Greene, Gunner Plantinga, and Ryatt Plantinga. Additionally, he held dear the bonds with his sisters, Sandy Jones (Tommy), Judy Brawner (Ron), and Joyce Slawson (Randy), alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who were enriched by his gentle spirit.

Throughout his life, John took pride in his active participation in the communities he was part of. He relished serving as a scout master in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, positively influencing the lives of young boys by instilling values of responsibility, leadership, and friendship. Furthermore, he was a respected deacon of the First Baptist Church of Snellville, Georgia, where his unwavering faith and service touched many lives in meaningful ways.

John had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life, finding joy in his time spent gardening. This hobby not only reflected his nurturing nature but also provided him peace and fulfillment as he tended to his plants.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Plantinga Sr. and Ruby Marie Payne Plantinga, and his cherished daughter, Katie Witten. Their memories will remain an enduring part of his legacy.

John J. Plantinga Jr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to devotion, integrity, and the value of family and community. As we remember him, we celebrate a remarkable man whose spirit will continue to inspire those who carry his memory forward.
