Martha Ann “Martie” Guy, age 66, passed away on August 20, 2026. She was born on May 23, 1960, outside of Ridgeway, Illinois, and lived a life marked by faith, devotion, strength, sacrifice, and love.
Her favorite person was Jesus, and if you did not know that, you did not know Martie. Her devotion to the people around her was only superseded by her devotion to the Lord. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about; it was something she sought to live. Though she would have been the first to admit she was not without failures, faults, or blemishes, Martie lived with a sincere desire to follow Christ’s calling: to be a light to the world, salt of the earth, to love as God loves us, and to make sure others could see the grace, love, and mercy of Jesus Christ through her life.
Martie built a career in finance as a CPA, known for her dedication, excellence, and work ethic. She earned her initial degree in finance from Murray State University and later, with characteristic determination, obtained a psychology degree from Trevecca Nazarene University. When she made plans, they usually included about three spreadsheets—a reflection of both her organized mind and the care she put into every detail, not to mention her need for control. Prior to her passing, a Legacy Award was created in her honor by her most recent employer, a fitting recognition of the lasting impact she made through her professional life and the relationships she built along the way.
She touched and impacted the lives of everyone she met in some way—whether big or small, but always memorably. Martie made sure the people in her life were cared for and never without. She gave of herself, often sacrificing for the sake of others, and she was never afraid to speak her mind when it mattered. Known for her Type-A personality, determination, and stubborn streak, she often did things her way, even when her way was the hard way. Over time, she learned to make her way God’s way.
To her family, Martie was affectionately known as “Grammie.” In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, trips to the beach, hiking, playing cards, biking, doing puzzles, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She was musically gifted, playing piano and serving as first-chair alto saxophone. She also began a beloved family tradition of “Cookie Day” before Christmas each year with the ladies in her family. These moments reflected what mattered most to her: faith, family, fellowship, and making memories with the people she loved.
Martie is survived by her parents, William Cecil Lemons and Bettie; her husband of nearly 16 years, Bryan Guy; her brother, Jerry Lemons and his wife, Elizabeth; her sons, Kyle Barrow and his wife, Alexis, and Mark Barrow and his wife, Angel; her six grandchildren, Hayden, Winter, Athena, David, Raylan, and Wyatt; her niece, Abby Stevens and her husband, Mark; her nephew, Adam Lemons; and her ex-husband, Ricky Barrow and his wife, Emily. She is also survived by cousins and other loved ones who will carry her memory forward.
Martie’s life was a testimony of faith, perseverance, love, and grace. Those who knew her will remember her caring heart, her fierce devotion to the people she loved, her unmistakable personality, and above all, her love for Jesus.
