Richard Eugene Smith

Richard E. Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, at the age of 70. Richard was born on October 5, 1955, in Hendersonville, TN, and he spent his life in the close-knit community of Gallatin. Richard was preceded in death by father, Richard Smith; son, Randall Smith; brothers, Junior Keller, Tony Smith, and sister, Cheryl DePalma.

Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith; son, Jonathan Smith and daughter-in-law, Neena Smith; stepdaughter, Nancy Bowman. He took great pride in being a grandfather to his grandchildren: Leilani Smith, Shyvina Bradley (David), Heaven Givens, David Givens Jr., Jonathan Givens, Angel Givens, and Faith Straws (Johnathan); and fifteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Martha Williams, along with countless friends and extended family who will cherish his memory. The family would like to recognize Doug and Lori Long for being such very special friends to Richard.

Richard was known for his hard work and dedication as a dump truck driver in the transportation industry. He had a wealth of knowledge about life, family, and friendship that he generously shared with those around him. He had a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh.

A celebration of Richard's life will take place at a later date, where friends and family will come together to honor the impact he had on all of us. Richard will be deeply missed, but his warmth and spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
